Another cover

Tuesday, November 8th, 2011

I got very happy when I heard The Ski Journal was going to put my shot on their cover. It’s a magazine I really like with it’s high quality coffee table style.
The shot is of Johan Jonsson from our trip to Haines,AK last winter. It’s pretty funny this shot got picked because it’s Johan’s very first turns in Alaska ever. He had been injured almost the whole season and when I told him about the AK trip a few weeks earlier he said he probably would not make it.
35h before my plane left I got the call from Johan that he was on board. He had been doing a last MRI of his foot and got the OK from the doctor so he booked the same flight as me.
We arrived and got 2 cloudy days with no flying but then in the afternoon of day 3 day there was a break in the clouds so we jumped in the heli.
We all got dropped off at the same peak, me, Ben, Stephan, Forrest, Johan and our guide Rob. The face we wanted to shoot was further down the ridge so we all got to ride down a fun little face with no intention to shoot it.
However me and Ben had the riders go first one by one just in case there was something interesting. Johan took off for his first real turns in 3 months and first turns in AK ever. Just at the end of the run where it got a bit flat he hit a little roller and popped up in the sun, that’s where I got this shot.

I have also posted a short video from the second part of that trip when we went camping on the glacier. It’s not much riding action but at least some tent life.

Kronicle cover

Thursday, November 3rd, 2011

I just saw that Kronicle put my shot on the cover of their very first issue. It’s a new snowboard mag in the States that are focusing on backcountry riding, just what I like!
It’s a shot of my good friend and local Engelberg ripper Yves Hüsler. With a pretty low snow year last season it was hard to find the really good days in the Alps but even if it’s “the worst winter ever” Engelberg always seem to get more snow then the rest. I’m not sure if this is entirely true but not far from.
I spent a lot of time traveling last season but I was lucky to get some really good days at home. This shot was taken on February 28th after a good cold storm.
It’s a foldout cover so you just see half of it. Make sure to get a copy if you can get your hands on it and check it out.

iPhone 4S

Thursday, November 3rd, 2011

Yesterday the mailman delivered my new iPhone 4S, I hope it’s a good upgrade from my old 3GS.
It’s still very nice weather here in Engelberg and I have been up skiing a few hours every day but we need snow now!
I’m thinking of buying some new camera gear soon but I have not pulled the trigger yet.

Season start

Monday, October 31st, 2011

It’s time to pick up the non existing blog again. I hope I can update it a lot more frequent than the last 5 months, lack of blog motivation is my only excuse.
The ski season has started here in Engelberg and I have been up a few times to try out my new DPS Wailer 112, they are so much fun! It’s just pist skiing so far but it’s great to be back on snow.
Here are a few snapshots from yesterday.

Haines video

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

These 17 days has been the shortest trip to Haines I have done so far in my 6 years to AK. After a frustrating week of down days we got the high pressure we needed to get our trip rounded up. We did not use any snowmobiles this year but had a small heli budget and did a camping trip with hiking for a few days.
Here is a video from our first part of the trip with Stephan, Johan, Forrest and Ben

Snowing

Wednesday, April 13th, 2011

It’s been a few days of snow and rain here at the Funny Farm so the crew has been doing a lot of down day activity (movies, facebook, editing, sleeping, eating, town drives etc etc)
It’s probably really good up in the mountains now so some sun would be very appreciated. We have some heli budget left but after that we will head out camping on the glaciers if we get the weather for it.

Day 1

Wednesday, April 6th, 2011

I’m very tired but just want to do a quick update. We got out with the heli for a short but good afternoon session. The snow is very good and the whole crew are stoked to have gotten this warmup day.
It looks good for tomorrow so hopefully we will get a full day but as alway it’s very hard to predict the weather here in Alaska.
I will only post one shot from today and that is Johans first ever run in AK. Obviously I will not show the action yet.
Good night

Down days

Tuesday, April 5th, 2011

Me and Johan got in to Haines late on Saturday where we met up with the rest of the crew, Stephan Drake, Forrest Shearer and filmer Ben Sturgulewski.
We stayed in town the first two nights but now we have moved out to the Funny Farm to be closer to the heli.
We are still waiting to get up on the mountain but the next two days looks promising, it could even be a late afternoon session today.
I will get back with more action in a few days.

Packing for Alaska

Friday, April 1st, 2011

A few days ago I got the final call to head back to Haines again. I almost thought I wouldn’t make it this year so I’m really stoked to see it all come together.
It’s going to be a fun crew with my mandatory AK partner Stephan Drake, ripping snowboarder Forrest Shearer and my good friend and solid skier Johan Jonsson.
I’m taking off very early tomorrow morning so I need to get back to packing my stuff now.

It was around 20 C today in Engelberg so we got together for an intense soccer game. A good way to warm up for AK.

Spring time in Engelberg

Saturday, March 26th, 2011

I have been shooting in Engelberg for the most part the past 1.5 months. I went on a 10 day trip to Greece with Johan Jonsson, Per Jonsson and Tom-Oliver Hedvall
It was a fun trip but we were fighting the weather the whole trip.
The weather has been pretty warm lately so the BBQ partys have been frequent but I have still found good snow to shoot up high.
I might head to Alaska next week but I’m still waiting for the final call to get my ticket.
Here is a short video from this week.

Skinning

The snow is not epic here now but you can easily find good cold snow with a bit of ski touring.
I went up with my friend Nick today for a quick hike and found everything from powder to spring snow. It was nice to get out of Salt Lake City today with it’s nasty pollution.

Jackson Hole

Friday, January 28th, 2011

I’m not sure I will get the “Blogger of the Year” award this year. I will try to update more frequent!
I have been in USA for a month now. I’m staying with the DPS Skis crew in Salt Lake City and have been skiing mostly in Alta since they were very nice to hook me up with lift tickets for my stay here.
The shooting has been good and I’m very satisfied so far. Apart from shooting for DPS I had a French crew here with Enak Gavaggio and Patrick Vuagnat to shoot a story for Skieur and we have been mixing in local riders Jamie Pierre and Julian Carr.
We have done 2 short trips to Jackson Hole that has been great. First session was storm skiing and deep pow and the last one had blue bird and great snow.
Yesterday was one of the better days in a long time. We went up with the first tram in Jackson and Jamie had a few cliffs lined up. The conditions were perfect so when the first lap was done he had jumped 4 very impressive cliffs.
After that we took 2 more laps on the tram and headed up to the Teton pass to get some sunset shots. We were hiking in the fog for about 45min but then we came above the fog and got an amazing sunset. I won’t show any action pictures from that session but I give you one scenic.
Below is a short video of Jamie’s show and some shots of things I like, food and sweets!
